Part A: Professional Engineering Practice and Ethics November 22nd (9:00 am - 4:00 pm)
This day-long workshop will help participants prepare to write Part A of the Professional Practice Exam (PPE). This workshop will focus on:
- Discussion of professional practice from three perspectives: the engineer as employee, the engineer as manager, and the engineer in private practice
- The structure, practice, and ethics of the engineering profession
- Professional Engineers Ontario Code of Ethics, Section 77 of the O. Reg. 941
- Comprehensive coverage of the topic from basic to advanced concepts
- Realistic and interactive case studies of ethical problems accompanied by the recommended solution for each case
- Case histories of engineering practices that led to disastrous and tragic results
- Typical examination questions, taken from Ontario’s previous Professional Practice Exams
Part B: Law for Professional Engineers November 29th (9:00 am - 4:00 pm)
This day-long workshop will summarize and simplify the fundamentals of professional Engineering law and will help participants preparing to write Part B of the Professional Practice Exam (PPE). This workshop will focus on:
- The Canadian Legal System and Business Organizations
- Tort Liability
- Contracts, Discharge of Contracts, Breach of Contract, etc.
- Arbitration and ADR
- Lien Legislation
- Regulatory Aspects and Ethics
- Industrial Property
- Laws Relating to Employment
- Sample Case Studies for Engineering Law Examination
